Practical Information

Getting Around

Jerusalem is very walkable, in the Old City and downtown areas. For longer trips (e.g., to Yad Vashem), use the efficient and cheap city bus system (Rav-Kav card needed) or the light rail. Taxis and ride-shares (Gett, Uber) are widely available. Note: There is no public transport from Friday evening to Saturday evening for Shabbat.

Book Ahead

Timed entry ticket for Yad Vashem is essential. It's also wise to book accommodation well in advance, during holidays. For popular restaurants like Machneyuda, book weeks ahead.

Packing Essentials

Comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, a light scarf or shawl for modesty at holy sites, a power adapter (Type H), and cash (Shekels) for smaller market stalls.

Total Budget

$360 (excluding accommodation, which varies greatly)

Customize Your Trip

Budget Version

Stay in a hostel in the City Center. For lunch, eat falafel or sabich from market stalls. Skip upscale dinners for shawarma. Walk everywhere possible and use buses instead of taxis. Many top sights (Western Wall, Yad Vashem) are free.

Luxury Upgrade

Stay at the King David or Mamilla Hotel. Book a private guided tour of the Old City. Dine at fine restaurants like Eucalyptus or Mona. Arrange a private driver for the day to Yad Vashem and Ein Karem. Enjoy a spa treatment at your hotel.

Family-Friendly

On Day 1, add the Tower of David Museum's sound & light show in the evening (kids love it). On Day 2, consider substituting Yad Vashem with the hands-on Bible Lands Museum or the Bloomfield Science Museum. Focus on market tasting tours and ice cream stops.
